WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 28, 2006) – The Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc. will celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the March on Washington by announcing the first twelve participants of its ‘Kids for King’ national essay program. The Memorial Foundation will also announce the expansion of the program to a total of 50 youth. Youth from first grade through twelfth grade were asked to write an essay about what Dr. King’s dream means to them. All 50 randomly selected participants will be invited to attend the November 13th Groundbreaking Ceremony.

GE executives, NBA All-Star player Chris Webber, and ‘Days of Our Lives’ actor James Reynolds will participate in this announcement.

The Memorial Foundation will announce the names of twelve randomly selected ‘Kids for King’ national essay program participants. These individuals are available for interviews but will not attend the Monday press conference.

Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc.

A memorial honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be built on the National Mall. The Memorial will be situated adjacent to the F.D.R. Memorial and in a direct line between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.  Congress passed Joint Resolutions in 1996 authorizing Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to establish a memorial honoring Dr. King to be built in Washington, DC.  Groundbreaking is scheduled for November 13th and the Memorial is scheduled to be completed in 2008.  Additional information is available at www.buildthedream.org.
